prepare a workspace + gather your tools

Clear a clean, flat surface with room to spread out and protect it with wax or craft paper. Then collect your tools! The best tools are common household items such as toothpicks, pencils, straightened paperclips and plastic cutlery.

master tip:
A round glass wrapped with cling wrap or wax paper makes a perfect rolling pin.

unpack your kit

Inside your Kid Jeweler kit are two waxes, one for practice and one for your final creation. Keep them separate or your design may be too heavy to wear and you may incur additional finishing charges. Spread out the instructions and inspiration cards for easy reference. For now, set aside the care-card, baggie, tin and mailer.

master tip:
Our wax is non-toxic but make sure children are properly supervised by an adult when handling and working the wax. Supervising adults should exercise discretion as to which activities are suitable and safe for the abilities of the children in their care.

shape your wax

Using fingers, tools, creativity and imagination, let your Kid Jeweler shape their unique design using one of the wax pieces provided. Adults can art direct as needed to help along the creative process. Visit our tips and techniques page to see different methods of working with the wax. For inspiration, check out our gallery.

master tip:
Don’t work too thin. The thinnest areas should be at least as thick as two stacked pennies. As needed, fold up a worked piece of wax and reshape an element that has been made too thin.
